Greece: fake medical certificates for pregnant women

A hospital employee was arrested for issuing “paid” fake certificates to pregnant women.

According to the national police, each such certificate cost women 60-80 euros. They mainly concerned the results of testing tests for the risk of spreading sexually transmitted diseases.

During the investigation of the case, it was discovered that a hospital employee, for a certain amount, issued fake medical certificates to patients without passing the necessary mandatory tests and examinations.

Responsible for the analysis and processing of blood samples taken from patients and having access to official documents and records in his office, a hospital employee filled out and issued medical certificates. At the same time, in most cases, without conducting the necessary medical examinations for sexually transmitted diseases and other infections.

After issuing the results of tests for which he himself was responsible, as well as tests that were not within his competence, he proceeded to validate and certify them, personally signing them with the name of a competent doctor and putting a fake round seal of the hospital.

As the investigation found out, in this way he bypassed the established procedure, according to which the results of the examinations must be checked and confirmed by the doctor, and then the certificates must be issued to the relevant persons by the hospital secretariat.

On Tuesday morning, the man was handcuffed by members of the Internal Security Service. The arrested person was charged with serial forgery, illegal receipt of money and violation of official duties.

The arrested person acted in the above manner since the beginning of 2023, in one hundred and one identified cases he issued false certificates in order to obtain illegal income. As a result of searches in his office and home, the following were found and confiscated: a computer, a laptop, a mobile phone, 4 medical certificates and 2 fake stamps. The arrested person will be brought to the competent prosecutor’s office, writes CNN Greece.
