Robbed in Greece, arrested in Sweden (video)

A Colombian robber who emptied safe deposit boxes in the Athenian district of Nea Smyrni has been arrested in Sweden.

He was one of three Colombians in a transnational mobile crime ring that specialized in bank robberies and played a leading role in the Nea Smyrni burglary on July 8, 2022. He was arrested by the Swedish police during a random check.

During the investigation of the theft from the safes of the bank in July last year, the perpetrators were identified. A case was opened against them, which was referred to the prosecutor’s office for the issuance of arrest warrants at the national and international levels. CNN in Greece published a video of the robbers. On one of them, a few days before the robbery, criminals are watching a bank branch from a cafe:

The recording of the second surveillance camera recorded the criminals leaving the bank branch in Nea Smyrni.

The gang acted boldly in Finland, Sweden, Canada, the USA. A few days before the Greek bank robbery, Colombians (aged 46, 42 and 46) arrived in the country from Serbia. After surveying the situation, they targeted the bank at Nea Smyrni and, in preparation, visited it several times over the course of three days, observing the security arrangements.

On the appointed day, wearing surgical masks, they entered the bank one by one. Having reached the vault unnoticed, the criminals broke into five safes and took the jewels inside. Also, one by one, they left the bank branch and dispersed in different directions, keeping in touch by phone. On the same day, the trio left Greece, taking a plane to Spain.
