Eva Kylie accused of fraud with EU funds

Along with the investigation into Qatargate, Greek MEP Eva Kaili will also be charged with misappropriating European Parliament funds and falsifying the expenses of her aides, Politico reported on Tuesday.

The publication has received documents showing that Kylie is accused of cutting the salaries of her assistants and their fake requests for a refund. According to Politico, Eva Kaili owes the European Parliament “about 100,000 euros” in connection with a criminal investigation into potential fraud. The investigation is looking into suspicious payments involving her assistant MEPs between 2014 and 2020.

Referring to a letter from the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) addressed to the President of Parliament Roberta Metsola, which Politico, the report indicates that the investigation against Kylie is focused on payments related to four of her assistants. The investigation covers the period from 2014 to 2020 and involves about 100,000 euros.

It is trying to establish whether Kylie lied about the work activities and movements of her assistants, as well as whether she took cuts in their salaries and compensation for business trips that never took place.
