The State Duma of the Russian Federation proposed to abandon the study of English in schools.
Sultan Khamzaev from United Russia, a member of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption, believes that it is time to exclude the compulsory study of English from the school curriculum of Russian students, quotes news portal MK.RU:
“We need to move away from the pro-Western vector in the Russian education system. From the key point: it’s time to remove English from the list of compulsory subjects in the secondary education system.”
Khamzaev believes that the English language has become international only because “it was definitely put into the program just like that,” that is, by force. He also noted that due to the presence of English in school curricula, it is “difficult” to find a place for initial military training, and subjects such as astronomy and drawing have completely sunk into oblivion because of this.
