The case of the “National Party – Hellenes” is presented to the Supreme Court

nomination “Εθνικό Κόμμα Έλληνες” (National Party of Greece) with Ilias Kasidiaris as a candidate for parliament, will finally be submitted to the Supreme Administrative Court (Supreme Court of Greece). Will it change the current situation?

According to the publication pronews.grthe decision was made and is being made for two main reasons:

Firstly, to demonstrate the political footprint in the area, and secondly, even if participation in the May 21 elections is excluded from the A1 Department of the Supreme Court (due to direct and overt government intervention, as recorded in the case Tzanerikosa) to appeal to the European Court of Justice.

This appeal, of course, will not change anything in the Supreme Court’s decision to keep the party out of the national elections, but it does not prevent it from running in the next election, or whenever it takes place.

The decision of I. Kasidiaris and the headquarters of the party to independently come to the ballot box is connected with the issues that arose in connection with the statements of the former Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court T.Kanellopouloswhich are considered “deplorable”. Because it is believed that they create a “substrate” and “arm” K. Mitsotakis to eliminate them even from the elections, despite the possible good intentions of an honest, but inexperienced in politics, comrade deputy prosecutor.

This is, if you look at the big picture, a situation that, under the responsibility of the government, leads to an absolute anomaly in the functioning of democracy, as they try to prevent parts of the citizens from expressing themselves in elections. And, as we said above, at least one in four nationalist district voters will choose to vote for SYRIZA in order to punish the Mitsotakis government.

Who will decide on the “National Party of the Greeks”

Following the resignation of Mr. Tzaneriku, Senior Magistrate Ms. Eudoxia Kyuptsidou-Stratudaki will assume the duties of President of the Chamber and preside over the composition of the judges. Judge Ioanna Klapa-Christodoulea will take part in the work of the chamber, who, as an appellate judge, together with her colleague Maria Dimitropoulou, conducted an interrogation in the Golden Dawn case, which served as the basis for the indictment of the entire parliamentary group in the dock. Including Ilias Kasidiaris, whom Maximou and the pro-government press associate with Mr. Kanellopoulos, thus trying to influence the decision of the First Chamber of the Supreme Court…

Therefore, since she has already expressed her opinion and judgment in this case, although it is obviously a completely different procedure and case, it is possible that she will decide to abstain personally from participating in the case, thereby cutting this Gordian knot.

Who are the other members of the composition of the First Chamber of the Court of First Instance

In addition to the two aforementioned persons, the following judges of the Court of Appeal are also members of Chamber A1 of the Supreme Court:

  • Christos Katsianis, who has held the rank of Areopagite since 2020, recently served as an alternate member of the Special Court in the television licensing case. While serving on the Court of Appeal, he was summoned and presided over the Triple Criminal Court of Appeal, which heard a trial at first instance with former minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos as the main accused, and he had previously been elected head of the Athens Court of First Instance.
  • Asimina Ifanti, according to the Yearbook of Court Officials, began her career in justice on July 4, 1984, and was promoted in 2020 to serve on the Supreme Court, from which she will retire at the end of June 2025.
  • Canella Tsavella-Dimara, not so long ago was a speaker in a case decided by the plenum of the Supreme Court on the issue of holding auctions for the sale of property by funds, since the summer of 2021 she received the title of justice of the peace and leaves the judiciary at the end of June.
  • Stefanos-Spyridon Pantazopoulos, has the rank of Areopagite since 2021, and is also a professor of law at the University of Athens. He is retiring from the judiciary at the end of June 2026.
  • Georgios Papageorgiou, received the title of Areopagite in 2022, before that he served as President of the Court of Appeal in Piraeus. He began his career in the judiciary in 1991 and retired in 2028.
  • Cornelia Panutsu was transferred to the Supreme Court a year ago and has over three decades of experience in the judiciary.
  • Fotios Mouzakis joined the judiciary on June 21, 1991, retired in 2018, and was transferred to the Supreme Court in the summer of 2022.
  • Ekaterini Chondrorizu has been working in the judiciary for exactly three decades. She was appointed to the Supreme Court in the summer of 2022 and is six years away from her retirement.

The provision adopted on Good Tuesday essentially deprives the president of the chamber of the opportunity to choose five members who will decide what will happen to the party of Mr. Kanellopoulos or Mr. Kasidiaris, but all members of the Department will participate.

It should also be noted that since the number of members of section A1 of the UK must be odd, either one of the above members will resign or another one will be added.
