Woman who doused her husband with gasoline gets jail time

A 49-year-old woman who doused her husband with gasoline and set him on fire has been charged with attempted murder.

A terrible incident occurred on the island of Mytilene. Her 55-year-old husband has been intubated and is in critical condition at Papanicolou Hospital. Doctors stated that he had large-scale severe burns on 50% of his body.

The businessman, the owner of the family business, immediately underwent a number of operations. The burn struck mainly the man’s torso, everything above the waist. According to doctors, the situation continues to be difficult. According to the information, the doctors of the intensive care unit carried out a “titanic struggle” to at least temporarily stabilize the man’s condition, to prevent deterioration. The next 24 hours are rated as the most critical, as the victim has severe second and third degree burns.

The couple were broken by a hard fate, because lost two of three childrenwhich negatively affected the psyche of the woman, who since then, apparently, began to drink alcohol along with tranquilizers and “tyrannized” her husband all the time.

“My cousin is from Plomari. Three years ago she lost her daughter in a traffic accident, and earlier, 20 years ago, she lost her first child. The girl, riding a bicycle, lost control, fell into the sea and drowned. Since then the sister was “moved by her mind,” the cousin of the accused told the Star channel. “In principle, both of them are a normal couple. They have another child who is now 30 years old, ”said another relative of the criminal.

The attacker’s father spoke about his daughter’s problems with alcohol after the loss of children and constant quarrels with her husband. “They both used, often quarreled … However, it did not come to a divorce,” he said. According to him, an adult woman began to drink after the death of her children and, despite his advice, did not stop.

“I wanted to call her, ask what really happened between them, but her mobile phone was taken away in a psychiatric hospital …”, the father added and explained that he had learned about the incident from his son. “My son-in-law was taken to Thessaloniki with burns … Probably my daughter was very drunk,” the elderly man concluded.

The woman reportedly doused her husband with gasoline and then set him on fire. She immediately changed her mind, realizing what she had done, and covered her husband with a cardboard box in order to extinguish the flame. She also went to the hospital with her husband.

However, she was arrested and charged with attempted murder and violating the Domestic Violence Act. On April 21, the accused was brought before the prosecutor of the first instance of Mytilini, and on Monday 24/04 she will appear in court to testify. Her husband is currently intubated and in critical condition at Papanikolu Hospital in Thessaloniki.
