The earthquake in Evia was felt by the inhabitants of Athens

An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale struck at 11:38 am Saturday on the island of Evia and was also felt in Attica.

The epicenter of the tremors was located 7 kilometers south/southeast of Zaraka on Evia. According to the revised decision of the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, the depth of the focus is estimated at 11 kilometers.

We remind you that the earthquake data of the Geodynamic Institute of Athens or the European-Mediterranean Seismological Institute are solutions obtained using an automatic computer system, without the participation of a seismologist. They are constantly updated as new data becomes available.

“There is seismic activity on Evia,” said CNN in Greece seismologist Vassilis Karastatis. He explained that the tremors are a continuation of the November seismic activity:

“Today’s earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurs in the same source, where in November last year there was noticeable seismic activity with a magnitude of up to 5 on the Richter scale. Today’s shock had the same characteristics as the previous ones and is therefore part of the evolution of the previous phenomenon. We have been following the evolution of seismicity in this area since November. In any case, caution should be exercised, but at the moment we do not see anything alarming.
