The problems seen since Monday afternoon on the national roads continue as citizens who left for Easter return to Athens.
Serious traffic congestion is observed on the Athens-Patras and Corinth-Tripoli highways, as the two arteries are connected together, and the waiting time on the Corinth toll road reaches 50 minutes. Monday evening waiting times for those traveling from Corinth to the toll booth at Elefsina were as high as 2 hours!
According to the latest traffic data, from 06:00 to 18:00, a total of 38,137 vehicles passed on the Elefsina toll road and 32,144 vehicles on the Afidnes toll road. In order to reduce traffic congestion, 18 lanes have been allocated at Eleusis (diodia) toll booths. A total of 300,000 vehicles are expected to pass through the two main entrance gates into Attica by Tuesday evening.
More than 550,000 cars left during all the days of Holy Week, culminating on Good Friday. For the safe return of citizens to Attica, 2,000 police officers and 550 specialized patrol cars were allocated.
Today, at 11:00 am, the second wave of those returning from the countryside started. The largest flow of cars is expected until Tuesday evening.
