Tourist season extension: 100% booking, direct flights

Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias spoke about the “renewal” measures in the field of tourism, highlighting its extension and expansion – from early spring to early winter.

In an interview given by the minister to the channel open, it was noted: “Christmas, New Year, Epiphany, Maundy Monday, Greek Independence Day on March 25, Easter – on all these holidays, tourist destinations (and hotels) were almost completely filled.” He emphasized that tourism is one of the main components of the country’s economy.

“The tourist season has been extended and now when we talk about vacation we mean not only three months of summer. From the beginning of March, direct flights began to arrive Americans, Canadians, Australians, Chinese – we didn’t have them last year – and of course all Europeans, Israelis, travelers from the Middle East. Clearly, Greece’s revamped tourism product is in high demand right up until the end of the year,” said Mr. Kikilias.

At the meeting of K. Mitsotakis with the SETE Tourism Executive Committee, it was emphasized that “the rebranding (active marketing strategy, including a set of activities) Greece has played a pivotal role in the development of tourism over the past two years, thanks to the successful management of the first waves of the pandemic.”

Recall that experts predict the current year as “breakthrough” in the field of tourism and already presumably say that “2023 will be a better year than ever before”and will bring a significant income to the treasury.

According to the Bank of Greece, balance in January 2023. showed a surplus of EUR 26.3 million compared to a surplus of EUR 44.0 million in the corresponding month of 2022. In particular, in January 2023, an increase of 71.9% in travel documents of travelers was recorded and in total EUR 224.2 million compared to EUR 130.5 million in the corresponding month of 2022.
