Trade + tourism = “Shopping in Greece”

The Hellenic Ministry of Tourism and ΕΣΕΕ are joining forces and collaborating to promote the “Shopping in Greece” campaign.

The Hellenic Confederation of Trade and Enterprise (ΕΣΕΕ) formalized its cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism yesterday during a meeting between ΕΣΕΕ President Mr. Giorgos Karanikas and Minister of Tourism Mr. Vassilis Kikilias. The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the Hellenic National Tourism Organization (EOT), Mr. Dimitris Fragakis, and the Second Vice President of ΕΣΕΕ, Mr. Thodoris Kapralos.

As noted in a related post, ΕΟΤ is running a shopping campaign in Greece for the first time. This happened after the publication of the results of a large-scale study by ΕΣΕΕ on tourism spending in our country, which demonstrated the huge potential for interconnecting tourism and trade, with significant benefits for both sectors and for the economy as a whole.

This is the satisfaction of a long-standing and strategically important requirement of the commercial world, which is able to enrich the Greek tourism product, contributing to the extension of the tourist season. It is also expected that this approach will significantly increase the turnover and profits of thousands of small and medium-sized businesses across the country, actively participating in the wider tourism “ecosystem”, mainly selling agri-food products, clothing and footwear, souvenirs, silverware. The Minister of Tourism stated:

“The campaign, already run by the Hellenic National Tourism Organization, will be accompanied by the promotion of ‘Shopping in Greece’. Just as London, Paris and other European capitals are promoting their shopping world, we will be promoting Greek trade and Greek goods. This is a new undertaking, to link trade with tourism, and I believe that it will have a positive impact on both commercial enterprises and the promotion of Greek products abroad.”

The President of ΕΣΕΕ, in turn, noted quotes CNN:
