Today in Athens, Nikos Christodoulidis is the newly elected President of Cyprus

The first official visit as President of the Republic of Cyprus will be for Nikos Christodoulidis a visit to Greece. He arrives in Athens today, Sunday 12 March.

Mr. Christodoulidis will hold meetings with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou and opposition party leaders. Meetings with the country’s top leadership will be held on Monday and Tuesday, 13 and 14 March.

The official program of the visit of the President of Cyprus will begin on March 13 at 10.15 with the laying of a wreath at the monument to the Unknown Soldier in Syntagma Square. Then he will proceed to the presidential palace, where an official welcoming ceremony will take place with the participation of Katerina Sakellaropoulou. The President of the Republic of Greece will award the President of Cyprus with the Grand Cross of the Savior, the highest decoration of the Order of the Savior given to prominent figures.

Extended meetings and consultations between the delegations of the two countries will follow.

At 12:00 noon, the President of the Republic of Cyprus will meet with the Prime Minister of Greece, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis at Maximos Palace, followed by extended talks between the delegations of both sides, followed by statements by the President of Cyprus and the Prime Minister of Greece.

At 13:30 there will be an official dinner for the Cypriot delegation, organized by Katerina Sakellaropoulou at the presidential palace.

At 17:00 Nikos Christodoulidis will meet in Parliament with Mr. Konstantinos Tassoulas, President of the Greek Parliament, who will present the Greek Parliament Gold Medal to the President of Cyprus.

At 18:00, an honorary event will be held at the Military Museum in honor of those who took the “Oath of Athens” on March 7, 1953. The President of the Hellenic Republic will take part in it, and Mr. Christodoulidis will address the audience with a greeting.

On Tuesday 14 March, the President of the Republic of Cyprus will have a series of scheduled meetings: with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Mr. Nikos Dendias at 08:20, and then with the President of SYRIZA, Mr. Alexis Tsipras, with the President of PASOK, Mr. Nikos Androulakis, with the Secretary General K.E. K.K.E. Dimitris Koutsumba and with the leaders of the parliamentary parties of Greece.

Mr. Christodoulidis will conclude his official visit to Greece with a meeting with the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Mr. Jerome II in the Holy Archdiocese of Athens.

The Cypriot foreign minister, government representative, deputy minister to the president and head of the president’s office will hold separate meetings with their Greek counterparts.
