Woe-mother: gave birth in the bathroom, and threw the child in the trash

The details of the death of a newborn baby found buried in the countryside of Larisa are shocking.

According to enikos.gr, the case unraveled when a 38-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital with uterine bleeding. The doctors who examined her determined that she had recently given birth, as they found a placenta with an umbilical cord. However, the patient herself, despite repeated questions, claimed that she was “not pregnant and did not give birth.”

After a police investigation, it was revealed that the woman gave birth on Wednesday in the bathroom of her home in Calivia Elassonas. The fetus was between 28 and 30 weeks old, meaning it was potentially viable. Then the unfortunate mother simply threw the child into the trash. Her parents took the lifeless baby to the countryside, about 2 kilometers from the village of Kalyvia, where they buried it on a plot that belonged to them.

Yesterday afternoon (09.03), police officers, together with the woman’s relatives, went to the place where the baby was buried. Medical examiners will perform an autopsy to determine if he was stillborn or died later. His mother is under guard at the Larisa hospital.
