Tsalafuti – a young cheese now registered as a POP brand product


Tsalafuti is a traditional Greek white, viscous consistency cheese. Produced in very small quantities and has a short shelf life.

According to the decision of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, the list of products with protected designation of origin (Προστατευόμενης Ονομασίας Προέλευσης, POP) officially included the cheese product “Tsalafuti”.

The application has been approved within the framework of Regulation (EC) 1151/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 21 November 2012 “Agricultural products and food quality system”.

Tsalafuti is a traditional Greek soft, usually spread on bread, white cheese with a velvety texture, creamy notes and a moisture content of about 75%. Its taste is reminiscent of a combination of yogurt, cream and butter combined.
