Tragedy in Tempi: “There were more passengers on the train whom no one is looking for”

The words of a young passenger who survived the Tempi tragedy indicate that not all passengers on the fateful train have been found and identified.

So claims Vasilis Netheridis, who was traveling on a train with his girlfriend named Claudia – she died, and he miraculously survived. He stated that the fatal train that collided with a freight train at Tempi had more passengers than identified.

Vasilis Netheridis reports that he saw at least three foreigners in the dining room – two British tourists aged 40-50 and another Romanian, for whom no search was conducted. He tells:

“We boarded the train in Athens at 19:20 and sat in the dining room. We wanted to drink coffee, something to eat, because we were returning from the carnival. We pass Larisa, I omit the fact of the delay in Paleofarsalo. We were with Claudia in the dining room, drinking coffee and listening to music. Where we sat on chairs in the dining room, I thought it better to look for a place further away. I tell Claudia, should I go see if there’s room? I got up, went to the third car, took five or ten steps and heard a loud bang. I fainted. Then I crawled the whole corridor, I don’t know how. I woke up 10 minutes later from the smoke that was suffocating me. People were screaming that we were burning alive. I didn’t understand what happened. I reached out my hand – already sure that I would burn alive – and grabbed the window. I had this window, I got out, and what I saw, I cannot explain even to the psychologists with whom I communicate. It was a sick horror movie. I looked for Claudia, but I couldn’t even find the cafeteria. I can’t deal with it.”

As he narrates, he recalls foreign passengers who were probably not being looked for, quotes CNN Greece:

“It was a British couple in their 40s and 50s. Nothing is heard of these two people. Next to me sat a man of Romanian nationality, whom no one was looking for. (…) I feel very bad and I don’t know, I’m in a very strange situation, I just don’t have words. I want to wish every person that their eyes never see what ours saw, and that their souls never feel what ours experienced.
