Tempi: death toll rises to 57

The death toll from the tragic accident in Tempi has risen to 57, according to the head of the forensic service, Larisa Roubini Leontari.

In particular, the forensic expert said that 14 more charred bodies were transferred to the morgue today, and 7 were transferred yesterday, on Wednesday, the first of March.

Roubini Leontari also said that the number of bags with body parts in the morgue exceeded 10: “DNA analysis was taken from each body part, so some parts that may belong to a dismembered body will then be assigned to certain remains based on their DNA analysis,” – she said, explaining the identification process.

At the same time, another 54 people injured in the train collision are being treated in hospitals across the country. Of them 6 people are in critical condition:

  • 21 victims are being treated in hospitals in Thessaloniki and Thessaly.
  • 14 are at AHEPA and 3 more at Gennimatas Hospital in Thessaloniki.
  • 2 patients are being treated at Katerini General Hospital and 2 more at Trikala and Karditsa hospitals.
  • The condition of 35 wounded who are being treated in two hospitals in Larisa, with the exception of those who are in intensive care, is manageable, and all of them are out of danger.

Children with head injuries underwent two surgeries. First aid was provided to all the victims. Some have even been discharged after the first few hours of treatment in the intensive care unit.
