Study: half the kingdom… over coffee

Experts conducted a nationwide study on behalf of the Greek Coffee Union and made some very interesting findings.

A new study analyzes the profile of a Greek coffee drinker. It was studied how often a citizen drinks coffee, how often he buys it for home and in what quantities he consumes this drink. According to the main findings of the study, coffee consumption is a “strongly rooted modern Greek tradition” as 95% of Greeks buy coffee.

More than 8 out of 10 respondents drink coffee daily (84%), while the majority of those who do not drink (66%) make sure to supply their family with a drink. 50% of respondents typically consume more than one cup (serving) of coffee per day (usually 2 or 3). For 73% of those who drink coffee, the habit of “charging” with it is stable and is not replaced by any other, for example, strong tea (which, by the way, contains no less caffeine – theine).

The habit of “drinking a coffee” or “going out for coffee” is especially common outside the home, and has not even been affected by the lifestyle changes (quarantines) and restrictions that the pandemic has brought to the daily lives of consumers. Characteristically, 53% of respondents have never thought that they need to stop drinking coffee. lifo.gr. However, 17% would do so for health reasons, 14% for economic reasons, and 13% because his coffee causes insomnia.

In addition, 38% of those who drink coffee do not intend to limit their consumption at home, at work or even outside the home, either for economic or other reasons, as this would automatically mean limiting their social contacts.

The Kappa Research study was conducted among 1,003 participants in 13 regions of the country between January 17 and 24, men and women aged 17 and over. The data was collected by 61% (611 people) by telephone interviews and 39% (392 people) based on answers in a specially designed electronic questionnaire.
