Market Pass reaction: “€33 a month? “We don’t want more bullying – Enough already”

A pro-government Greek channel decided to report on the street to “hear” the opinion of the townspeople about the Market Pass. However, the reaction of citizens was so negative that the transmission was abruptly interrupted.

“I haven’t done it yet”, “no, I won’t, isn’t 33 euros a mockery?”, “I don’t want bullying, that’s enough”, – were the answers of the first three citizens and the survey was immediately interrupted. It is noted that two elderly women and a girl managed to answer.

After that, SKAI journalist Akis Pavlopoulos tried to change the bad image created by the Market Pass poll and began to reason, which, however, cannot be based on … mathematical data.

“Listen, 33 euros a month sounds kind of small, but when you consider what kind of quarter it is, along with a housewife’s basket (which became a kind of joke) a lot of money” …

Obviously, the people of Athens don’t think so…

Grocery prices on supermarket shelves have risen by more than 50% on average, and thus the much publicized Market Pass, which began on February 22, is becoming a big political issue for the authorities.

The government, however, hopes that with appropriate manipulation of voters just before the election, it will be able to deceive citizens and drown out the pain of rising prices that plunged them into despair.

In short, the increase will reach 50% and the Market Pass will return 10% to the consumer! There is -40%.

According to authorities, the monthly purchase limit for a household for which it receives 10% assistance is up to 220 euros for a one-member household, increasing by 100 euros for each additional household member and up to 1,000 euros of purchases. In reality, the state allocates from 36 to 42 euros per month.

The amounts seem ridiculous against the backdrop of rising prices …

Let’s take into account that these “subsidies” are not a “gift” from the government, since they come from the taxes of the Greek people, first of all. Secondly, the 24 percent VAT, which is one of the highest such taxes in the world, generates huge revenues for the state budget, which prefers to return a very small part to citizens.

Until March 15, 2023 (in any case, without the exception of an extension), citizens will be able to join the program.

As the saying goes, “from a bad sheep, at least a tuft of wool.”
