Message of Vladimir Putin to the Federal Assembly (supplemented)

The press secretary of the Russian president, before starting his address, noted that social and economic problems have always been an absolute priority for Putin, and the military operation in Ukraine is an existential issue for the country, for the people and personally for the head of state. I am delivering today’s message at a time of irreversible change throughout the world, the most important historical events that determine the future of the people, Putin noted. The theater of military operations was mastered long before the first step of Moscow. Russia did everything possible to peacefully resolve the situation in Donbass. In 2014-2015, there were many attempts to attack the Donbass, but “everyone pretended that nothing was happening.

In December 2021, we officially sent NATO drafts of a security assurance treaty, but we received a direct refusal on all positions. Then it finally became clear that the go-ahead for aggression had been given. The threat grew every day. Those who planned the attack on the Donbass in 2022 set Crimea as their next target.

“They started the war. And we use force to stop it.”

As a result of American military campaigns, about a million people died and more than 30 million became refugees. Nobody in the world will forget this. To spread neoliberal, essentially totalitarian values ​​is the goal of Western politics.

In the 30s of the last century, the West practically opened the way to power for the Nazis in Germany, and in our time they have made “anti-Russia” in Ukraine. And all with one goal – to tear off territories from our country. Western politicians don’t give a damn who to bet on in the fight against Russia – as long as they do their will. The “anti-Russia” project is part of the revanchist policy of the West. There is only one idea – to kindle a war in Europe with someone else’s hands.

“We are not at war with the people of Ukraine, they themselves became hostages of the Kyiv regime.”

One circumstance should be clear to everyone – the more long-range systems will come to Ukraine, the further we will be forced to move the threat away from our borders.

It is impossible to defeat Russia on the battlefield, so more and more aggressive information attacks are being carried out. They lie constantly, do not stop attacks on our culture, on the Russian Orthodox Church.

The West relies on national traitors who always have the same poison of contempt for their fatherland. We will never be like Kyiv and the Western elites, we will not settle scores with those who took a step aside and retreated from their homeland. Let it remain on their conscience. The main thing is that the citizens gave them a moral assessment. We are proud that our multinational people have taken a principled position on the NMD and supported our actions to protect Donbass.

The President thanked the entire Russian people for their courage and determination, noted the security forces, volunteers, fighters of the DPR and LPR, and also apologized that he would not be able to name everyone: “When I was preparing, I wrote a long list of all the heroic units. I will call.”

Special words for the residents of the DPR and LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions: “You yourself have determined your future.”
