A $14.99 per month paid subscription for account verification is being launched by Meta, Mark Zuckerberg said.
The new Meta Verified service will enable users to verify their accounts, tells Financial Times, “Get a blue checkmark, additional protection against accounts impersonating you, and direct access to support.”
According to Zuckerberg’s Facebook post, the service will cost $11.99 for the desktop version and $14.99 per month for the iOS and Android operating systems. This week Meta Verified will be launched in Australia and New Zealand.
According to Meta, this will cost the company more than $10 billion in lost revenue in 2022, or about 8% of its total revenue in 2021. Meta’s 2021 revenue was hit by changes to Apple’s privacy policy that limited its ability to track users’ online activity, a key source of data for targeted advertising.
Zuckerberg clarified that Meta Verified would allow users to verify their accounts with a government-issued ID. Blue checkmark holders will also have access to more visibility and reach features, such as visibility in search and recommendations.
