Detention in Crete with shooting and wounding of police (video)

Drugs, a pistol and cartridges were found in a 35-year-old man, whose detention on February 14 in Crete took place with shooting and crowds.

The bloody incident involving the injury of two police officers and a civilian took place yesterday at noon on the main street of Gazi in Heraklion, Crete.

According to an official statement from the General Regional Police Directorate of Crete, the police stopped a car driven by a man. After law enforcement officers found a small amount of cocaine during the inspection, the criminal opened fire. As a result, two police officers of the Heraklion security sub-directorate and a civilian, a 22-year-old man who was in a nearby cafe, were injured. The offender was also wounded by return fire.

The victims were taken to the hospital, their lives are out of danger. A preliminary investigation is underway. As it turned out, earlier the man was convicted of robbery. According to police, the detainee was involved in a drug case, was under surveillance and had serious psychiatric problems. The weapon used by the perpetrator is not registered, writes CNN Greece.

In the meantime, police authorities continue to investigate, local residents are trying to recover from the shock. Luckily, there were only three victims, as the bullets, according to eyewitnesses, literally “rained”.

According to Cretalive, the perpetrator, who was being watched by a group of Heraklion security police, shot and wounded a 36-year-old policeman who was trying to arrest him, and then continued firing indiscriminately while trying to escape.

Panic reigned in the street – bullets hit the cafe building, a residential building, as well as windows of at least two neighboring stores. It is expected that the perpetrator of the bloody incident, as well as the guy who was injured in the cafe, will be operated on, said Cretalive PAGNI Deputy Commander Stelios Kteniadakis.
