Church bells stolen in Menidi

The theft from the church belfry took place last Thursday, in the middle of heavy rain.

According to the priest of the church, father Alexandros, speaking on the ANT1 program “Morning Greece”, the criminals entered the church and took away the large and small bells weighing 80 and 30 kg, respectively, leaving only the smallest one. According to Father Alexander, the bells contain precious metals bronze and silver, but in order to extract the latter, thieves will have to take the stolen goods to a special foundry.

This is not the first time that thieves have raided the temple of the prophet Elijah. In the recent past, unidentified persons dismantled all air conditioners from the outside of the temple, and 10 minutes later, around 6:00 am, a woman tending the temple was attacked. When she arrived at the church, her mobile phone was taken away.

The lack of security in the temple will now result in either the capture of cynical thieves who are unlikely to be able to quietly melt such durable bronze, or an appeal to patrons of the parish for new donations (in order to buy bells and install them in the same place, the belfry).
