Amsterdam announces fight against… tourists

The capital of the Netherlands is running an advertising campaign “Stay away” (Stay away), which includes measures against certain types of tourists.

Its purpose is like writes BB.LV, to “discourage” travelers who go there because of legal drugs, alcohol and corrupt women of “free” behavior from visiting the Dutch capital.

First of all, new measures are planned to be directed against British tourists, most of them noisy and destructive. With the clear effectiveness of the measures, the program will also apply to guests from other countries. And its launch is scheduled for the spring of next year.

The plans of the Amsterdam authorities to restore order in the city are quite extensive:

  • reduce bar opening hours;
  • impose restrictions on visiting entertainment establishments;
  • reduce the number of river cruises;
  • ban smoking marijuana on the central streets of the capital;
  • to close a certain number of coffeeshops selling hemp and products from it;
  • if possible, move from the center to a new location on the outskirts of the “red light district”.

The authorities of Amsterdam hope that the introduced measures will reduce the flow of violent adventurers, and the capital will finally become calmer. However, similar attempts have been made before. For example, in 2021, a plan was developed to combat excessive tourism, and the authorities said they could ban visitors from the city from visiting cannabis establishments.
