The government will return the fines paid by pensioners if they … get vaccinated

The Mitsotakis government continued to harass unvaccinated pensioners because, under a health bill that has been tabled in Parliament, the fine imposed on those over 60 who have not been vaccinated will be reimbursed only by those who have been definitively vaccinated or officially exempt from mandatory vaccination for health reasons.

As stated in Article 58, administrative fines, after applicable interest for late payment, which were imposed on individuals before the entry into force of this Law, are canceled retroactively and automatically by the competent authority, provided that:

a) the fined were vaccinated with either the second dose of the vaccine or a single dose of the vaccine in the prescribed manner before 31.12.2022,

b) fined or they were exempted from the obligatory measure of vaccination against the coronavirus COVID-19.

The administrative fine, which is subject to return after payment of the relevant interest for delay, is canceled and is not subject to offset when returned as overpaid.

The aim of the proposed regulation is to remove the penalties imposed on the unvaccinated population over 60 who are currently either vaccinated or exempt from mandatory vaccination by the end of this year, and to return any amounts collected.

And this is because the goal of the authorities in imposing these fines was to protect the health of the individual and society, which is achieved by vaccinating the elderly even at the last moment. And this despite the fact that the decision of the authorities promised to cancel the fine.

Parallel to the bill that has been tabled, the obligation of non-vaccinated workers mandatory rapid test extended until March 31st. For many residents of the country, (in their words), “the test has become an additional tax imposed in favor of pharmacies.”
