The house was put up for auction for a debt of 1400 euros

Before the Greeks could forget the story of the criminal eviction of Ioanna Kolovou, watching the increase in the number of auctions for primary housing, members of the Coordinating Association of Trade Unions of Thessaloniki came out Friday on a symbolic blockade of the Eurobank branch on Tsimiski Street (Thessaloniki).

The organizers of the mobilization expose the auction of the first house in Kato Toumba, owned by a flexible worker, for a debt of only 1,400 euros to a private individual.

The protest action, which took place on December 2, was attended by representatives of trade unions of workers and pensioners, and they were closely watched by numerous police officers. The protesters are demanding, among other things, the repeal of the auction law from 2015 and the protection of first homes. As specifically stated by the member of the coordination Ilias Smilios:

Vasilis Partalis, chairman of the Pensioners’ Union “Η Συσπείρωση” (Conspiracy), spoke about the difficult situation in which pensioners found themselves, many of whose houses were put up for auction.
