The first snow of the year in the mountainous regions of Greece (video)

On Sunday, the first snow this year fell in several regions in northern Greece, turning the local landscapes into scenery from fairy tales.

Snow-covered and Christmas-like Nymfaio in Florina, western Macedonia.

The village of Nymfayo is a mountain community that has been designated as a “Protected Traditional Village” since 1978. Travel guides list it as one of the ten most beautiful villages in Europe, and in a worldwide competition, UNESCO won the Melina Mercouri International Prize for excellent management of cultural heritage and the natural environment. The settlement has a permanent population of 132 inhabitants.

Nymfaio is home to the head office of the Arcturos organization for the protection of the brown bear and the wolf.

Many of the mountainous regions of Northern Greece are dressed in white as temperatures are below freezing after a change in weather that has been quite good throughout November.
