A caretaker at a Houston medical office building was arrested after allegedly urinating into a water bottle belonging to a colleague who later determined she had a sexually transmitted disease (STD).

The New York Post reports that the victim told investigators that she began bringing her bottle of store-bought water every day after she drew water from an office dispenser (cooler) in August that had a strange taste and smell. The woman explained that if she did not run out of water during the working day, she left it on the table to drink the next day. After a few days, the woman noticed that the water she brought also began to smell bad, but she could not figure out what was wrong.

When a colleague offered to make her coffee in September, she asked if they could use her bottle of water instead of the dispenser because of the smell. Her colleague looked at her water bottle and noticed that it looked yellowish. “I brought the bottle to my face, sniffed it, and … it’s true, the smell of urine came from it. I felt disgusted,” the victim says.

The doctor the victim worked for ran a water test, confirming the woman’s worst fears. The doctor suspected that this could be done by … a watchman (guard). When the victim told other colleagues about what had happened, another woman said that the same thing had happened to her. The worker installed a hidden camera in the office and filmed the criminal. Police identified him as Lucio Catarino Diaz, who rubbed his genitals on a water bottle.

The next day, she handed over the video and two bottles of water to the police, and when the police met with Diaz, he confessed, saying he did it out of “malicious intent” and that it was “an illness,” the document says. Diaz told police he did something similar at a previous job where he worked for eight months. He said he couldn’t remember how many times he had done this in the past and that he didn’t know he had any sexually transmitted diseases.

According to court documents, lab results confirmed that the victim contracted an STD that he had not previously had. Diaz was also tested and found to have the same disease. “This is truly disgusting and my client will suffer the consequences of what this man did for the rest of her life,” Kim Spurlock, the victim’s lawyer, told KHOU.

It is unclear if other victims have tested positive for any sexually transmitted diseases. According to the report, Diaz was charged with aggravated assault and is currently in custody.
