Turkey threatened Greece

Hulusi Akar, Turkish Defense Minister, said Ankara was prepared to take “preemptive action” if Greece did not comply with the demilitarization of the islands in the eastern part of the Aegean.

The Turkish minister’s statement was reported by Gazeta.ru, referring to Keep Talking, Greece. Akar accused the Greek authorities of aggressive rhetoric and that “they are up to something.” He asks:

“Does the installation of weapons in front of our noses not pose a threat to our country? Doesn’t that give you the right to self-defense?”

Hulusi Akar believes that Greece is hindering Turkey’s purchase of weapons and military equipment and spoiling “the potential positive climate that could be created between the two countries.”

This is not the first attack of the Turkish government towards Greece. Earlier, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkey, accused Athens of violating the Lausanne Peace Treaty, saying that the Greek authorities infringe on the rights of the Turkish national minority, writes GreekReporter.

Greece wants to have a dialogue with Turkey, but is not ready to make concessions regarding its national sovereignty and will not demilitarize its islands just because Turkey wants it, earlier declared Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis on the air of the SKAI TV channel. He added that Greece is more ready than ever, having increased the level of combat readiness of its armed forces, which is causing a reaction from Turkey. Greece, he stressed, will not give up its weapons or international alliances.
