Demand for holidays in Greece is expected to reach an all-time high this summer, at least according to the head of the German tourism giant TUI, who says Greece is still one of the most popular tourist destinations.
“Especially Crete is heading towards an unprecedented record. There is currently no tourism sector or destination in Greece that is not in demand,” says Oage Dienhaupt, Communications Director at TUI. In total, the TUI group is expected to bring about 3 million holidaymakers to Greece, more than in 2019, when the number of tourists was 2.8 million.

- Corfu
- Peloponnese
- Macedonia
- Santorini
- Zante
- Karpathos
- Mykonos.
However, bookings for September and October have also increased significantly over the weeks, and TUI is again expecting a large number of applications for the fall. It is noted that October has already become one of the most popular holiday months in Greece, starting in 2021.
According to Dienhaupt, TUI’s decision to start the tourist season in Greece from the beginning of this year “proved to be absolutely correct.” He adds that even in cruise sector, demand for Greece continues to grow: “The Greek islands are particularly popular with our cruising customers.”
TUI Communications Director says Greece also ranks first in preference among holidaymakers luxury. “Luxury travel during the summer season is almost completely sold out. In recent years, Greek hotel owners have invested in their facilities and many beautiful resorts, even brand new ones, have been created. These investments are now paying off,” he concludes.
