A total of 378 forest fires have been reported across the country in the past 7 days, fire brigade spokesman Yiannis Artopios said at a press briefing Wednesday. Only sand 41 forest fires broke out in the last 24 hours.
A spokesman for the fire department added that given prevailing high temperatures, increased wind strength, and low relative humidity, conditions were favorable for wildfires to start and spread rapidly.
The most notable of these fires originated in Schistos Korydallos, Portes Achaia, Schimatari Viotia, Sernikaki Fokida, Korakia Kranidi Argolis, Porto Germenos, Agios Ioannis Corinth and Korythi Pyrgos Ilia.

By order of the fire chief, the personnel of the fire services of Attica and Central Greece were put on general alert to fight fires in these regions.
On several occasions, Greek brigades have worked alongside Romanian and Bulgarian firefighters as part of a pre-training program for the European Civil Protection Mechanism to share know-how in fighting forest fires, spokesman Artopios said.

The fire service appeals to citizens: in the event of a fire, it is important to remain calm, call 199 or 112 and provide information about:
- your location;
- the exact location of the fire and its direction;
- the strength of the wind in the area;
- type of vegetation burned.
