Greece is ready to provide ships for the export of grain from Ukraine

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced Greece’s readiness to provide vessels for the export of grain from Ukraine.

Three-day meeting of heads of state and government of 30 NATO countries with the participation of partners and candidates opened June 28 in Madrid. The main topics of the summit: the adoption of a new basic document of the alliance – a strategic concept for the period up to 2030, a discussion of the conflict in Ukraine, an official decision to refuse dialogue with Russia and recognize it as an adversary, a significant buildup of military forces in Europe, an increase in military spending, attempts to remove the veto Turkey to receive Finland and Sweden.

Following the talks on Tuesday in Madrid, mediated by the Secretary General of the alliance, Turkey agreed to unblock the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO. A memorandum of understanding was signed between the three countries, it contains an obligation to fight against terrorist organizations, as well as to unblock the export of weapons to Ankara. Sweden and Finland applied to join NATO in May.

Speaking to reporters on the last day of the Madrid summit, NATO Secretary General stressed that Greece ready to help with the export of grain from the Ukrainian Black Sea ports blocked by Russia: “Greece has announced that it is ready to provide ships for the export of grain from Ukraine.”

In addition, Jens Stoltenberg announced that on Tuesday it is planned to sign a protocol on the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO. It then has to be ratified by the national parliaments of the thirty member countries of the alliance so that both countries can become members of NATO and fall under the collective defense clause.
