The ΑΠΘ Faculty of Medicine’s Health Psychology Program awarded Joanna, who has been struggling to recover from her rival’s attack with sulfuric acid for a long time, for her fortitude.

“I have to be strong and I have to try. Because this is my motivation,” Joanna Paliospirou said at the event “Fortitude, Nature and Health” (“Δύναμη Ψυχής, Φύση και Υγεία”).

“I believe I can’t back down and disappoint all the people who have supported me all this time,” says a courageous young woman in her speech at an event organized in Tellogleyo (Τελλόγλειο), as part of the postgraduate program “Applying Psychology to Health” Faculty of Medicine ΑΠΘ.

“It is a great honor and pleasure for me to be here today. Thank you so much for the invitation that was sent to me, I was able to attend and take part in an event dedicated to mental health, which is a very important issue, and I think it concerns all of us,” said Ioanna Paliospirou.

She also mentioned that it never occurred to her that all of Greece would be talking about her, that she would receive so much love from the world and even become a “role model” (in terms of fortitude).

“I did what I had to, tried to survive and get back on my feet. But for me it is a great satisfaction that something beautiful has come out of all this very ugly for many people, ”she said.

When asked where her energy came from, the young woman replied that she found it all “a bit complicated”: “So the power definitely came from my character and from my soul. But I also drew strength from my family and doctors. I received incredible emotional support from the public, you can say from all over the world. Always in difficult times, I think that I can’t “fold my hands” and disappoint all these people who have supported me so much.”

“In front of Joanna, whom we are awarding, and other courageous people, we reverently bow our heads, raise our thumbs up and call on the whole world to follow these steps of fortitude, courage and personal courage,” said the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs responsible for Macedonia and Thrace, Stavros Kalafatis, who attended the event.

The Director of the Graduate Program, Associate Professor Efharis Panagopoulou, described Ioanna Paleospira and the other two students who were awarded as examples of the strength of the soul, as well as role models.
