"Gazprom" shuts off gas to the Netherlands and Denmark

The Russian company “Gazprom” announced the termination of deliveries of blue fuel to the Netherlands from May 31. The reason is the refusal of the energy company GasTerra to switch to payment in rubles.

The Dutch operator says it does not risk violating European sanctions, so making payments in Russian currency is not possible. The contract with Gazprom ends in October, and the Dutch were counting on the supply of about 2 billion cubic meters of gas. However, Amsterdam assured that he had already purchased from other suppliers. Dutch climate and energy minister Rob Jetten said on Twitter that the Russian gas giant’s decision would have no effect on the supply of households in the country.

Denmark may also be included in the list of countries to which the Russian concern has “cut off the pipe” (Bulgaria, Poland, Finland and the Netherlands). The payment period expired on Tuesday, and Ørsted made it clear that it does not plan to switch to paying for deliveries in Russian currency. The Russian company noted that at the end of May 31, that is, on the last day of payment under the contract, they had not received payment for the gas supplied in April from Ørsted. According to “EP”paying for gas in rubles, as the Kremlin wants, can violate sanctions EU against Russia, so a number of countries refused such blackmail and extended the payment according to the terms of the contract – in dollars or euros.

Greece, meanwhile, said that there would be no cessation of gas supplies from Russia – all importing companies switched to payment in rubles. There are three (main) ones in the country – Mytilineos, DEPA Commerce, Prometheus Gas. Russian gas accounts for 45-55% of imports. Experts note that it will not be possible to replace it with other deliveries in the coming years.
