State Duma: Russia will not leave "liberated territories of Ukraine"

The State Duma ruled out Russia’s withdrawal from the liberated Ukrainian territories, on May 26, State Duma deputy from the Crimean region Mikhail Sheremet announced this.

The Russian Federation will not leave citizens living in the liberated territories of Ukraine without protection and grants Russian citizenship to the population of Kherson and Zaporozhye regions under a simplified procedure. RIA Novosti and NEWS politician is quoted as saying:

“Granting the right to simplified citizenship is an important, fair and fateful decision. This is, first of all, the protection of citizens living in the liberated territories. This once again proves that Russia will not leave and will not leave the liberated territories without protection, we will not abandon people. Integration with Russia opens up new development opportunities for the liberated territories.”

Recall that yesterday Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the simplified procedure for admission to Russian citizenship of residents of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions of Ukraine. The document is published on the official portal of legal information. The decree comes into force on the day of its signing.

Director of the Institute of Newest States, political scientist Alexei Martynov said that this decision is of a humanitarian nature. The expert recalled a similar practice in relation to the residents of Donbass. According to him, given the success of this precedent, the decision on Zaporozhye and Kherson may also resonate with residents of other regions.
