Dead whale washed ashore on the island of Rhodes

A dead whale four meters long was thrown out today on May 1 on one of the beaches of Rhodes.

In particular, an unusual incident was observed by local residents – the appearance of a disoriented whale in shallow water. Apparently, he was injured. Veterinarians and divers arrived at the scene to help the mammal.

According to dimokratiki.grin the morning the whale was discovered by walking people, and they immediately reported the sad find to the fire department of the island.

Commander ΠΥΡ (Πυροσβεστική Υπηρεσία της Ρόδου) Mr. Nikitas Venios and firefighters are already at the scene, and the competent authorities of the region, the municipality of Rhodes and the Forest Service have also been informed of the need to take action in accordance with the protocol.

While the causes of death of the marine life remain unknown. However, experts are yet to find out. The autopsy will be carried out by specialists in the competent department.

Recall that at the end of January, residents of Athens (Alimos district) observed the appearance of a whale in shallow water.

The whale was helped to get out into the depths, but the marine inhabitant returned to the shore again. Dr. Koutsoubas, professor of marine biology, told SKAI that these animals often stumble on ship propellers. He noted that, apparently, the whale received serious injuries, which often end in death. The professor also explained that the whale is not dangerous at all, it is a representative of one of the protected species.
