Alina Kabaeva stayed "without sanctions"

The US National Security Council stopped the imposition of sanctions against Alina Kabaeva, Olympic champion in rhythmic gymnastics.

For the first time, the United States imposed sanctions against members of the family of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Two of his adult daughters were on the sanctions list. A message appeared on the website of the White House stating that full blocking sanctions are being introduced against the “adult children” of the President of Russia. Putin’s two daughters are from his marriage to Lyudmila Putina, from whom he announced a divorce in 2013. His last photo with children was published in 2002 – the Russian president protects his personal life and does not like to talk about his family. Bloomberg notes that the imposition of sanctions against Putin’s daughters is more of a symbolic move designed to attract the attention of the president, since it is not known whether they have assets outside of Russia.

Washington, according to Radio Liberty, decided not to aggravate relations with the Russian president literally at the last moment. The highest officials in the United States thought that they could cause Putin to overreact and aggravate relations with the Russian Federation, reports The Wall Street Journalciting anonymous sources.

The 39-year-old Kabaeva is often associated with the Russian president. According to the media, the Olympic champion may be the mother of at least three of Putin’s children. Washington also proceeded from this information, fearing an overly aggressive reaction from the Russian leader. Against adult daughters Putin – Maria Vorontsova and Katerina Tikhonova – sanctions have already been introduced, writes BB.LV.
