The evacuation of Greeks from Mariupol continues, the column is moving west

The convoy of vehicles, in which there are Greeks who want to evacuate from the war zone and part of the employees of the Mariupol consulate, continues to move through the territory of Ukraine.

“Fighting is going on everywhere we go,” says Giannis Bersimis, who is in one of the cars. People spent last night in Zaporozhye, where they arrived at 8 pm, and now moving west – first to Kirovograd, and then to Moldova. However, the route, according to the Athens News Agency, can be adjusted depending on the situation. Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias tweeted:

“This morning I participated in a teleconference dedicated to the development of Operation Nostos-3 for the release of Greek citizens who wished to leave Mariupol. Greece is obliged to provide all possible assistance.”

The Greek Foreign Ministry says:

“191 representatives of the diaspora, mostly elderly people and children, will be taken to Kyiv by bus, and then to the island of Rhodes by plane.”

On Rhodes ethnic Greeks will be placed at a local hotel. What actions will be taken in the future is not specified. The asylum program for representatives of the Greek diaspora is organized at the initiative of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad, the Foreign Ministry said.

Earlier, according to the official report, 50 citizens managed to leave Odessa and Kyiv after the coordinated actions of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Greece and Ukraine, and arrive in Greece via Romania.
