Snowfall in Epirus: Highway Egnatia closed to heavy vehicles

Cyclone Bianca arrived in Greece, bringing with it rain, storms and snow. Weather phenomena have manifested themselves in northern and central Greece since the morning of Sunday, February 27th.

On the provincial road network of Konjica, Zagori, Tzumerka and Metsovo, drivers could not move except by equipping their vehicles with snow chains. For safety reasons, the movement of trucks on Egnatia Odos was stopped due to heavy snowfall, reports iefimerida.gr.

According to the National Meteorological Service EMY, first in the west, in the center and in the north, clouds, rains and thunderstorms (some snowfall) are expected. Bad weather will gradually spread to other parts of Greece.

The atmospheric front will be especially strong in the Ionian Sea, Epirus, western Sterea and the northwestern Peloponnese. Then it will move and cover Macedonia, Thessaly and the Sporades.

Gradually, the islands of the northern and eastern parts of the Aegean Sea and Thrace will be in his power. Heavy snowfalls will occur in places in the mountains and foothills of Epirus, Macedonia and Thessaly, at times in the mountains of the central part of the country.

In the afternoon, snow will fall in the mountains and foothills of Thrace. By evening, weather disasters in the west will weaken.

Wind north and northeast force from 6 to 8 points, in some places up to 9 points on the Beaufort scale. By the evening, a slight weakening is expected.

In northern Greece, the air temperature will drop sharply. Frosts are expected in the evening, including in the central part of the country.

ATTICA

Weather: Cloudy, showers and thunderstorms. From noon weather phenomena will gradually weaken.

Wind: southerly 5-7 and temporarily 8 Beaufort in some places, will change to the north from noon and weaken a little.

Air temperature: from +10 to +16°С.

THESSALONIKI

Weather: overcast, rain, occasional severe thunderstorms. Heavy snowfall is expected in the mountains and foothills. By the evening the weather phenomena will weaken.

Wind: easterly 6 to 8, in Thermaikos temporarily up to 9 Beaufort, will change to northerly 6 to 8 Beaufort from noon, calm down a little by night.

Air temperature: from +09 to +11°C.
