12th suspect in the murder of 19-year-old Alkis surrendered to police

The 21-year-old suspect surrendered to authorities on Monday morning. He became the 12th arrested in the case of the murder of 19-year-old Alkis Kambanos by football hooligans in Thessaloniki.

The suspect, previously referred to as “Dinos” by other detainees, is believed to have driven one of the three vehicles used to transport the attackers. It is reported that the Volkswagen Polo, which fell into the lens of surveillance cameras, is registered in the name of the father of the suspect.

A total of 10 people have been arrested in connection with the murder. Another 20-year-old suspect is expected to extradited last week by the Albanian authorities to Greece, will stand trial on Monday. Having fled to a neighboring country after the murder, he stated that he was not directly involved in the murder.

According to media reports, each of the suspects denied that he had fatally wounded the victim.

Victim died on the spot from a blow with a mini-scythe on the inner surface of the thigh. The hooligans started beating and stabbing Alkis Kambanos and two of his friends after they were asked which football club they supported.

Citizens’ Protection Minister Takis Theodorikakos said the Greek police investigation had concluded with the extradition of a 12th suspect.
