A shocking Citizen Television video from Kenya captured the deaths of more than 20 passengers on a school bus belonging to a local seminary.
According to the district governor, the bus was trying to cross a flooded river in Kitvey County, in eastern Kenya. There were more than 20 people in it. People watching from afar began to scream when the bus could not stay on the road and overturned, falling into the water.
Vice President William Ruto expressed his condolences to the families of the victims: “Tragedy struck Kitty County this afternoon.” He said that security personnel and the Kenyan Red Cross are involved in the rescue operation. As of yesterday evening, according to the governor, “23 dead” were pulled out of the river and “there are still bodies on the bus.” The search for the bodies of the victims will continue on Sunday morning.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver tried to cross the bridge, which was flooded with water. The vice president urged drivers to be extremely careful on the country’s roads, where many areas have been hit by heavy rains in recent days.
