A group of criminals who stole cars were discovered and neutralized by police from the Office for the Fight against Property Crimes in the Attica region.
As part of the operation, which took place in the morning hours of 5-11-2021 in Frakomakedones, two local residents, aged 33 and 41, were detained by police officers of the said service. The identity of another member of the organization has been established, he is on the wanted list.
A criminal case was initiated against those arrested on the basis of:
the creation of a criminal organization, theft, fraud, violation of the law on weapons.
As for the method of action, the criminals moved in the afternoon through various areas of Attica in search of the “necessary” vehicles. When they were discovered with the help of special equipment, they were hijacked and temporarily parked in secluded places.
After a sufficient period of time and after they were not found, the cars were transferred to specialized garages, where they were taken apart.
Some of the stolen cars were handed over to other criminals to commit theft (often after the raid, the cars were set on fire), others were adapted to facilitate the transport of migrants, and still others were interrupted and sold at a reasonable price to unsuspecting buyers. One of those arrested opened a car dealership.
The total value of the stolen vehicles exceeds 170,000 euros. Those arrested have reportedly been charged with similar crimes in the past.
The perpetrators were brought to the Athens Prosecutor’s Office, the investigation is ongoing to establish their involvement in similar criminal acts. A search for their accomplices is underway.
