Pope Francis includes Lesvos in the schedule of his official visit to Greece

Pope Francis will visit Lesvos in late November or early December during his visit to Greece. The island, which has received the most refugees, is included in the list of destinations for Pope Francis’ upcoming tour of the country, according to the state news agency Amna.

The visit to Greece will take place at the invitation of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. In preparation for it, the cardinals will arrive on the island on Thursday, accompanied by representatives of the Greek Ministry of Migration and Asylum. They will visit the Mavrovuni (Kara-Tepe) temporary refugee camp, which is included in the Pope’s route on the island.

Meanwhile, the Catholic Archbishop of the Aegean, Joseph Printesis, Metropolitan of the islands of Naxos, Tinos, Andros and Mykonos, arrived in Lesvos on Wednesday.

Pope Francis visited Lesvos in April 2016 and took with him 33 refugees to the Vatican. His last visit was on the island in 2019.
