Free Internet and “Freedom Pass” have an expiration date

The free provision of GΒ internet for young people aged 15-17 who have been vaccinated against covid, announced by the Prime Minister at the International Fair in Thessaloniki (Διεθνή Έκθεση της Θεσσαλονίκης), appears to be valid.

From the amendment presented by the parliament the other day, it follows that the term for the provision of free Internet for students is three months, which Kyriakos Mitsotakis did not mention in his speech.

In order to prevent further disappointment of young people, who realized that the government was kind of “making fun” of them, the authorities suddenly changed the time period when this measure would take effect. Now, with new legislative intervention, the € 150 cash (prepaid “Freedom Pass”) and internet provision will be valid for five months, not the three announced a few hours earlier.

Free gigabytes are provided to minors of mobile devices aged 15 to 17 years who have received at least the first (or only) dose of the vaccine before 12/31/2021.

The corresponding legislative decision was introduced by the Deputy Minister of Digital Government George Georgantas in the bill of the Ministry of Finance concerning the restructuring of the State Legal Council (Νομικού Συμβουλίου του Κράτους).

According to him, out of 434,000 vaccinated young people aged 18-24, 383,133 have activated the Freedom Pass, and 323,000 have made at least one transaction.
