Research: more than 100 times more likely to be infected with the Delta strain

Researchers at the University of Maryland argue that the Delta mutation is likely to be more easily airborne than thought.

Research scientist Dr Milton said the research showed that strains of the coronavirus were “easier to airborne.”

A study based on monitoring the air exhaled by infected volunteers under specified conditions has also shown that cloth and surgical masks can halve the amount of virus spreading in the air.

The Delta strain has been found to be even more infectious than previously thought.

The study, published in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases, involved 49 volunteers infected with the alpha mutation, as well as other strains of the virus in whom the disease was asymptomatic or mild.

Participants breathed air in an apparatus called the Gesundheit-II (ss Hygeia) for 30 minutes without a mask and 30 minutes with a mask. Volunteers were asked to repeat the alphabet three times while participating in the study, or to sing “Happy Birthday” three times.

Thus, as a result, the obtained data were obtained and analyzed. As a result, it turned out that the amount of the Delta virus spreading in the air was 43-100 times higher compared to previous strains.
