US politicians do not take coronavirus warnings seriously

Chinese defector Wei Jingsheng claims to have warned of the coronavirus weeks before the world learned of an outbreak of a previously unknown disease.

Wei Jingsheng, “the father of Chinese democracy,” can be safely called the most famous defector from the PRC. A documentary has recently been released based on his book What Really Happened in Wuhan and real events in China. A well-known activist claims that long before the world faced the pandemic, in November 2019, he warned of a mysterious disease in Wuhan. However, American politicians did not take his words seriously.

In a new Sky News Australia documentary, Wei Jingsheng reports on hearing about the unknown virus in October 2019 during the World War Games in Wuhan, The Daily Mirror says. He claims that he tried to warn about the seriousness of the situation in Wuhan, specifying that he spoke with a certain politician and with Chinese human rights activist Dimon Liu. Without naming the American politician he spoke to, Wei explains:

“I’m not sure if this politician wants me to talk about him right here. But I want to say that he is a tall enough politician, tall enough to reach out to the President of the United States. “

The defector stated that, unfortunately, his information was not taken seriously, and added:

“I felt they weren’t as worried as I was, so I tried my best to provide more details. They might not have believed that there was a government of the country that would do something like this (cover up the virus). So I kept repeating, trying to convince them. “

But only on January 30, the World Health Organization announced an emergency of international importance, and on March 11, a pandemic.

The New York Post recalls that Wei Jingsheng spent more than 18 years in the dungeons of Chinese prisons for protesting against the communist regime, and his escape to the United States hit the pages of the world’s leading media in 1997. He is highly respected by American politicians and has excellent relationships with Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US House of Representatives, and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Wei, 70, says he learned about the dangerous virus from Beijing dignitaries and was “very worried because … no matter how the communist regime released the virus, I felt the West was not prepared.”

State Department official David Asher, who led the team to study the origins of COVID-19, believes the opportunity presented by Wei’s warning was like “stopping 9/11 before it happened.” Asher noted that at that time, at the end of 2019, there were other important warning signs, but the authorities were unable to connect them together. He also said that at the end of 2019, the US government first received information about sick employees of the Wuhan Institute of Virology, who had symptoms similar to COVID. Asher is shocked that “we really could have known in advance” about the coronavirus .:

“In November 2019, we could know that there was a disaster in Wuhan – inside their most important biological sites associated with coronavirus research. Something absolutely tragic, traumatic and dramatic happened, and we could react to it. The whole world could be different. It would be like stopping 9/11 before it happened. “

The New York Post claims that the PRC authorities tried to hide any news of the outbreak in Wuhan. They cleaned up the internet and deleted social media posts, news articles, pages for “disappearing” dissidents and whistleblowers trying to issue a warning. Thanks to this, it was only at the end of January 2020 that Australia, the United States and New Zealand closed their borders to Chinese travelers.

Dimon Liu, a human rights activist, tells in her book What Really Happened in Wuhan that she learned about the virus from a story by Wei on November 22, 2019, at a dinner attended by her husband Robert Suettinger, a former CIA agent. She notes:

“I couldn’t believe what he was saying. At the time, I thought that coronavirus couldn’t be worse than SARS. And SARS, as we knew from experience, was not so contagious, and it could be contained. At the time, I thought it was. Okay, there has been an outbreak, but the authorities and the development of medical sciences will be able to contain its spread. “

In the book, the human rights activist details the race for information about an unknown virus in the White House. After talking with Wei, she wrote a note about their conversation and the information she received. Together with her husband Suttinger, they were about to hand her over to Donald Trump’s deputy national security adviser Matt Pottinger, but the woman confesses:

“I didn’t send it to the president because many things were so incredible. I wrote it down but didn’t send it because I thought it was best for Wei to speak directly to Matt Pottinger. ”

Wei Jingsheng states in the book, quotes MK:

“In the past few decades, you Westerners have found it difficult to understand the CCP’s ability to hide information.”
