Turkish infectious disease specialist calls for tougher requirements for Russian tourists

The rise in the incidence of coronavirus in Turkey is worrying the authorities. Professor Mehmet Ceyhan, head of the country’s Association for Infectious Diseases, urged on his Twitter to tighten sanitary requirements for visitors from Russia.

The professor draws attention to the fact that today there are more than 100,000 active cases of coronavirus in the country, the number of COVID-19 infected can be about a million. Ceyhan calls for unquestioning observance of sanitary measures (wearing masks and observing social distance), as well as toughening requirements for Russians: “Otherwise, it will not be possible to stop the growth of cases.” True, the infectious disease specialist does not specify exactly how they should be tightened, emphasizes Interfax

Fahrettin Koca, Turkey’s health minister, reported 12,381 new cases on Saturday. Since May 12, when the third wave of coronavirus hit the country, this is the highest rate. Some media outlets were quick to report that Ankara would close the borders, but the Turkish Embassy in the Russian Federation denied the information.
