UK: lifting restrictions on COVID-19 postponed

Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of Great Britain, decided not to rush things and postponed the lifting of all restrictions in the country for a month due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The prime minister’s decision, announced at a press conference, was reported by Reuters. The originally expected lifting of restrictions was scheduled for June 21. It is now scheduled for July 19th. Due to the invasion of the Indian strain of the coronavirus, the government decided it was “wise to wait a little longer.” It is expected that by the new date at least the first dose of the vaccine will be received by the entire adult population of the UK.

Previously our edition reportedthat the scientist advising the British government on the coronavirus, Professor Ravi Gupta of the University of Cambridge, says there are signs of a third wave of Covid-19. He insists on lifting the lifting of restrictions. The professor acknowledges that while the number of new cases of covid is “relatively low”, but the Indian strain has stimulated “exponential growth”, indicating the beginning of the third wave.

He recommends that the government postpone the June 21 lifting of Covid restrictions. George Eustis, the minister of the environment, has already said that the government does not rule out postponing the planned easing of isolation. However, business leaders warn of the harmful consequences of such a step, changes to already announced measures could lead to disastrous consequences.
