Businessman threatened to commit suicide by climbing onto the courthouse

Police operative actions were carried out in Rhodes today in order to prevent the businessman from committing suicide.

The 50-year-old owner of a bar in Faliraki, protesting against the fact that his appeal for the abolition of administrative punishment, the closure of an entertainment establishment, was not crowned with success, threatened to commit suicide.

The man climbed onto the building of the Administrative Court of First Instance in Rhodes and threatened to throw himself down. His wife and father arrived at the scene and tried to calm him down.

According to him, the police imposed a fine on the bar without even getting out of the car. He declares that he is in despair as he is “financially ruined”. According to rodiaki.gr, the potential suicide was still persuaded not to take a rash step. Then he went down and entered the building, following the procedure prescribed by law.

To save the businessman, a crane from the fire department was driven to the scene, and the service staff placed a special protective net on the ground, under the place where the man threatened to throw himself down.
