Drugs were sent in parcels

A 42-year-old Chinese man was arrested in Athens by the Attica Drug Enforcement Prosecution Office. The foreigner is accused of importing prohibited substances into the territory of Greece.

According to ELAS, after checking the information received by them about the import of postal parcels (by air) with a certain amount of raw hemp to Greece, a suspicious cargo was revealed, sent from Spain.

Inside the package were five vacuum nylon bags, carefully wrapped in pillowcases, with raw hemp, weighing five kilograms and 30 grams. At the moment when the foreigner received the parcel, he was detained by the anti-drug police, who pretended to be employees of the courier company.

Further investigation of the case revealed that the criminal scheme was an established transportation of drugs in mail from Spain to Greece. Three more parcels were found with similar prohibited raw materials, with a total weight of 16 kg and 180 grams, which were confiscated.

The arrested Chinese was taken to the Athens prosecutor’s office. An investigation is ongoing, in cooperation with the Spanish authorities, to establish the whereabouts of his accomplices, as well as the originator of the drugs.
