Nea Smyrni: 60-year-old man stabbed for remark about noise

At about 5 a.m. on May 13, a 60-year-old man left the house to make a remark to young people who have been organizing loud parties for 2 weeks in a row in Nea Smyrni Square. In response, they stabbed him, took the money, phone, and left him in a pool of blood to die.

Beginning in late April, hundreds of young people began to gather in the capital’s Nea Smyrni square to relax in the company of friends. At first, they were relatively quiet, but around May 1, they felt that the police did not react to their parties in any way and began to actively make noise.

Loud music until 5-6 in the morning, firecrackers and rockets shooting at Easter and a week after it caused a negative attitude of people living in the area. But there was no reaction to complaints to the police. Apparently, the police were “offended” for events on March 9 and decided to completely ignore the entire area.

Further – more, groups of street racers pulled up to the square, who did not so much race as demonstrated the power of their motors and the ability to drift through the streets of a densely populated area. Naturally, everything happened at night, preventing thousands of people from sleeping.

The noise of the motors was superimposed on the rumble of music and the roar of the crowd, and one of the inhabitants of the house near the square could not stand it. A 60-year-old man, at about 5 am on May 13, went outside and tried to reprimand the young people, asking them not to make noise.

According to the elderly man, he was attacked by a group of young people, whom he asked to stop the noise. In response, they stabbed him and stole all the money he had and his mobile phone. And then they fled, leaving him in a pool of blood.

The victim was taken to hospital, and at the scene, police officers tried to collect data on the perpetrators. Investigators are now looking for surveillance footage and collecting evidence that will allow them to find traces of those responsible for the unprecedented attack.

Another bad thing, was it really difficult to react to what was happening before? And in general, what is this concept of resentment against the residents of the district? If the police are offended, let them hand over their tokens, weapons and quit. For, despite the offense, no one gave up the salary plan and all the benefits for the police.

The same question to the mayor of the district: on what basis were hundreds of complaints over the past 2 weeks simply ignored? Therefore, the blood of the victim is also on the conscience of the mayor.

Greek quarantine. Starting from May 1, thousands of young people gather in Nea Smyrni Square. Naturally without masks and buzzing in full. The problem, however, is not so much in the absence of any sanitary standards, but in the noise, which lasts until 4-5 in the morning. The very peak begins at about 2:00 am, when bikers arrive and show the power of their engines, constantly accelerating and polishing the asphalt with tires during breaks. Or worse, their freakin ‘supercar counterparts with loudspeakers capable of stadium sound. Calls to the police do not help, they are offended and believe that since they were driven out in March with a scandal from the square, it means that they are no longer responsible for this area. Then the mayor, the police chief and other responsible persons must also leave and before that return their salaries, since no work has been seen since March. But local taxes are taken from us regularly and not weakly enough. Where is the truth brother?
