Early in the morning, a large wild boar capture operation was organized in the Sikeon Forest Park in Thessaloniki.
Forestry officials, along with the Hunter Association and with police support, set up a trap to capture the animal and then take it out of town.
According to the Deputy Mayor for the Environment Antonis Saulidis, calls have been received from citizens that a wild boar is walking in the park at 2 am.
Then ELAS and the forestry service were notified, and the Thessaloniki Hunters’ Association was informed, whose members arrived at the scene. Examining the footprints of the animal, everyone came to the conclusion that at the moment it can presumably be in the dense vegetation of the northern part of Sikeon.
“The trap and the food have been set, we are waiting for the result,” said Mr Saulides.
“Whatever help is required, the municipality is ready to provide support anywhere and at any time,” the official stressed. It is noted that in order to prevent the animal from leaving the Sikeon forest park, the entrances and exits were fenced. Presumably, the operation to capture the wild boar may take several hours.
